Hump Day Sewing!

Did a little sewing before work and a lot of sewing after work today!  First up was my Plus block in orange for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  Then I tackled block five and six of Tula Pink's City Sampler.

I really don't have a plan for colors on these blocks...I am using the pictures to help me pick my fabrics and am hoping that Tula had a plan that I can follow, haha!  Right now it looks a little hodgepodgy but I am not going to worry too much!
After cutting and sewing a bunch more huge HST's for Scrappy Mountain Majesties I sewed a half of another block and then went down to work out and make chef salad.  When I came back up I put borders on this little Packer quilt (I sewed the second half of it today).

Tonight, Kathy did the cutting and I did the sewing on this Lil' Twister (turned the pic above into a much smaller quilt below).  It goes pretty quickly with the two of us tag teaming.  I am hoping I will have time to quilt it tomorrow but if not I will do it this weekend, I want to bring this one to my phone job and hang it in the cubicle!  GO PACK GO!

Lake Front Property Once Again!

You may have heard that Arizona got a bit of rain overnight and this morning.  I live in a neighborhood that only has this one entrance to our street.  This morning we walked down to see all this water and people wakeboarding/skiing and riding in inner tubes and getting kayaks out!  We met more neighbors today than in the past six years we have been living here.

Here is Coleman out checking out how far the water goes down the street.  As far as the eye can see in this direction....

and pretty far in this direction too.

We walked down about four times today and the water did recede a little bit, but just before sundown this is what it still looked like!

Our street is not flooded but we live next to the canal and this morning the backyard was flooded and the canal was a few inches from overflowing into our backyard.  Thankfully it has been going down all day (and the rain stopped...so far) so there is almost two feet of canal available to fill again if we get more rain.  Our backyard drained nicely, yay!  Many people were without power, have flooded homes, etc.  Not in our area but not far from us either.  The college I work at called off classes (actually all of Maricopa Community Colleges closed) and we did not even attempt to go out.  Hopefully we can get out in the morning for work though!

We did enjoy Quiltcam with Bonnie and Kathy made progress on Wanderlust.  Isn't this one gorgeous?  I am so glad she is making it so we will have one and I don't have to make it!  Love how colorful and scrappy it is!
Meanwhile I worked on Scrappy Mountain Majesties.  Yesterday I was inspired by some other gal's picture on Quiltville's Open Studio and I thought this would be a fairly quick top to make large.  I am happy with my progress today, but I need to make more blocks because I want this to be for my youngest son Mac's double bed.  He doesn't have a HUGE quilt for his bed in Wisconsin and I am hoping he will like this since his favorite color is blue (or red he said).
Goal is to have a quilt for each of my grown up kiddos this year since the plan is for them all to be here at Christmas this year (it will have been three years already!).  Hannah will be getting My Blue/Purple Heaven since Coleman and his fiance broke up right after I got it into a flimsy (and fittingly Hannah's favorite color is purple) and I am thinking I am going to make more Moth in the Window blocks so that I can enlarge that top and give that one to Coleman this year.

Classic Meets Modern--Maple Block :)

I really struggled with picking the colors for my Maple block.  I wanted it to be orange since leaves are often orange (and not so often hot pink) but I only have a hint of orange in the other blocks and it just wasn't working for me.  I cut and placed lots of squares before deciding on this and I actually really like it now that it is done.  So here are all my block together so far and I am loving how they are shaping up!  Cannot believe there are only three more blocks to go!
Linking up with Sew at Home Mummy's Classic Meets Modern Quiltalong.

A Little Bit of Everything!

Here is this week's Wild and Goosey block and what I have so far.  Two more blocks and there will be another row to add :)

I got the border on the second March on Green Bay Packers quilt and the backings made for both of them.  Now Colton and Ben will each get one for Christmas--so nice to check a few things off the to be made for Christmas list!  (I also made another gift for my Santa Sack Swap partner but cannot show you yet!).

Kathy finished her third Jelly Bean Blast block for Wanderlust.  It is looking good!

Choose Your Own Blockalong!

I came across a blog that led me to two more blogs and a new project!  MichelleRene', and Cindy came up with the idea for the "Choose Your Own Blockalong" and it just so happens two of the three of them are planning to do the Tula Pink City Sampler which I have on my someday, oneday list and often drool over the book, so you can see I just had to go ahead and jump on their train!  So I am trying to do about two blocks a week and tonight I got last week and next week's blocks done!

One thing I noticed while doing these four blocks--I need more fun, hip fabric and another thing is wow some of these pieces are TINY!  However it was fun to to get started on these and I look forward to seeing how it will all come out!  So if you want to join us on this project, Dear Jane, Farmer's Wife or some other set of blocks, play along.  It will be fun to keep each other going--it worked for Hawaii Sunset, so I think it will work for this too!

Tomorrow we have the 35th Ave. BOM and then I plan to spend my day sewing (and working out!).  I didn't lose or gain any weight this week so am still at 56.8 pounds down I think it is.

My friend Ros is having a little giveaway on her blog if you want a cute chicken pincushion head on over to Ros the Quilter's blog and leave her a comment!

Orange is Here!

September is here and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color is orange!  Perfect for fall and easing us into cooler tempers.  Here is bear paw, such a fun block.  Linking up here!

And here is Kick.  I love the movement of this block.
I also got a few leaders and enders lozenges going in orange.
I will be linking up to SoScrappy so head on over there and see what everyone else is up to with orange!
We hung our flag and watched the first Packer game last night....it was a hard one to watch, but I am still glad we are back to football season!  This is my favorite time of year though I miss the changing leaves of Wisconsin.
A Facebook friend asked me to post ten books that have affected me one way or the other so I took a picture of eleven books that I have read at least once that I loved so much I kept them to read again and again.  That is a rare honor in my library--I only have two shelves of actual books that fit this category.  Most books are read once and given away, donated, or traded in.  Now that I read on my Nook it is even rarer!
If you are a reader, I challenge you to post a picture of your ten favorites or the names and authors so I can find some more good reads!

Happy Labor Day!

My accountant daughter Hannah flew to Louisiana tonight for her job and was on the plane with Si and Jep from Duck Dynasty.  She got to get a picture with Si after they landed--how fun for her!
I finished up the Eye Spy quilt and got some slightly wavy borders on.  I will hand tie this one and have it ready for a little one down the line.  After getting that done I went to work for a short three hour shift and then came back home and went right back to it!  Kathy was working so I finished up listening to China Dolls and organized the orange scrap bin and cut tons of 3.5 inch strips and then lozenges.  I am pretty sure I will have too many lozenges when these are all sewn...three more months to go!
I have been posting my Wild and Goosey block that I complete each weekend on the Quiltville Open Studio group...it has gotten tons of attention and several folks have now started this or added it to their list.  That has motivated me further so I did an "extra" block today!  Loving seeing this one grow since I really want to have it quilted and bound to show Bonnie in person (she saw it last year, tiny!) in January.  Also one of the editors of Quiltmaker saw my pictures and asked if I could send her some to be published in the magazine.  How cool is that?  I hope it materializes, this quilt is tons of work but it is SEW gonna be worth it!

My daughter saw some of the pictures and asked who this one was for and I told her I was keeping it though it might be inherited by the oldest grandchild.  Her response was I will tell my brothers the race is on..haha!  While I cannot wait for grandkids, she is the only one even remotely ready to have any and right now she is focused on her career and enjoying life--such a smart girl!  So glad my advice about not having kids young got through to the kids...all mine were born by the time I was 23 and I guess the best thing about that is that I now have time for me and am still young enough to enjoy it!  :)
Back to a full day of work tomorrow but hoping to sew again Wednesday or Thursday!

Emerald Jubilee is Coming Together and RSC from 2015!

You may remember a few years ago I completed Ruby Jubilee from Quiltmaker Magazine that year in red.  Becky and Bonnie did it in purple.  I ...
