Two Finishes!

Isabella's Flying Geese Map Quilt is all quilted and bound and boxed up to go to Minnesota. I hope she enjoys snuggling with it for many years.

Also got my Zoe's Quilt history blocks quilt all bound, here is the front looking great...I am SO SO pleased with all the time and attention Ros put into quilting each of the blocks differently.

And here is the back...these are the blocks I wasn't nuts for so I put them in the back...Ros cut off the worst one half way through it and I am tickled pink with that since it was an awful block! Also I had a heck of a time with getting the backing the right size with the strip going the same way as the front blocks...I have up and so it is the other direction, gives it more character I say! I plan to bring it to Zoe's to show the group this Thursday night for quilt history class, then I may have to hang this one in the stairway or something. It makes me smile!

I went to Ros' with BJ yesterday and I started working on some birthday and Christmas presents...also started on my Quilt Hitory block for 2010...this year instead of doing a BOM we each are each picking a block we want from WWII time period and making 15 of them with some coordinating fabrics. Then we will all exchange so we will have a full quilt with different blocks. I have chosen my block and cut quite a bit cut and some sewing done too. I have until Dec. to get them done, so I am ahead of myself, that too makes me smile!

Quilt History BOM for 2009 and the May Schnibbles Reveal

Tomorrow I will be seeing Ros (and BJ and June!) and getting back my Quilt History BOM for 2009 that she quilted. She did each individual block differently and the pictures look great! How exciting for me!

I came home from work and rode my bike and then went right to sewing! I finished up the my choice Schnibbles for May--Betsy!

You may remember I won a gorgeous bunch of fabric from Bear Paw Quilts and More at http://www.bearpawquiltsandmore.com/ and I figured it only fitting that I use it for a Schnibble! I had the border and binding fabric, but otherwise this all came from the bundle I won! I am going to use the panel to make a backing too I think. It is quite busy, but the colors are relaxing!

I also got another row (that's three) done on the Night and Day quilt.

Not the greatest of pictures but here is the backing for the 2009 Quilt History Quilt. It will wind up being the opposite direction of the front blocks. I passed it on to Ros (along with last month's Schnibble Quilt) for quilting and she gave me a Schnibble back all quilted! I need to get binding on it. I also stopped at Quiltz since I was going up to my brother's place which is near there...went in for backing for my Walk in the Park quilt, but wound up with the rest of the fabric I need for my cousin Patricia's baby girl (Isabella, born a few days ago!) and a backing for the kit I bought Kathy as well as some stuff I just fell in love with that reminded me of Norway!

After shopping I went over to my brother's place and sewed with his gf Tiffany. My sister joined us and made drinks and entertained our adorable nephew. My brother spend the day yelling at the Suns....apparently this did not win. A really bad picture, but I finally whipped up a tablerunner for my sister. It is a funky fabric (like a fake leather or something) but she is happy she can cover up her beat up dining room table.

I made some curtains for their kitchen. Tiffany was very happy to have them done and hung. Me too!

Another not the best pic (camera batteries died and took this with cell phone) but I made two of these little valances...one for Sam and Tif's bedroom and one for their bathroom. Really pretty fabric Tif picked out, though Sam wasn't so sure!

A Whole Lot of Progress!

Kathy made me a gigantic A for my quilting studio! I may paint it down the line, but I really like it! This morning I got up at 6 AM (for no real reason, which is RARE!) and sewed up the binding for my Roundabout Schnibbles Quilt!

I then decided to finish up my Quilt History Quilt top...I went ahead and put the last three not so hot blocks together and then realized that I needed four in order to make the size better...I don' t like those three blocks (upside down but on the left of this picture) and so I will put them into the backing of this quilt. At this point it still needed the last border....
I completely forgot to take a picture and blog about the ice skate I got from Kimmie from Michigan when we met up a few weekends ago for the quilt show and such. I didn't wind up getting as much time with her and the gals as I had hoped, but we had breakfast together before the show. She made this cool ice skate painting! Sweet, huh and very thoughtful of her to give EACH of us one!

Now you can see I did cut and add the wide outer border to the Quilt History 2009 quilt. It is BUSY but I like it anyway. I also whipped up the binding since I was on a roll. Now all I need is the backing and it can go to the quilter!

I was also multitasking while doing all this. When my Dad died six months ago (has it really been six months already) he passed on to me his dad's old film reels that had been converted to VHS. I watched almost three whole VHS tapes this morning while sewing...much of it is from before my Dad even came along (1946) and it starts out black and white and no sound...eventually it is in color and there have been parts with sound but not many so far. I have caught a few glimpses of my Dad as a baby and a toddler. Even better is seeing his mom, Florence, who died when he was six. I have only seen a few pictures of her and now I can see her personality and her love for her husband and boys. There are also lots of visits to National Parks, a plane and train crash mess (Grandpa was an engineer and maybe this was work related??) and even the race between Seabiscuit and I forget the other horse in which Seabiscuit barely loses. It is taken from the stands, so I guess my grandfather was there! Interestingly enough..I have only watched a few movies with my Dad in my adult life and one of them was Seabiscuit! There is also a Packer Redskins game from the same time frame...looks like it is at Lambeau! Anyway, I look forward to watching more this afternoon.

I then decided I was going to just put this Walk in the Park quilt together and have Ros quilt it...hopefully since I didn't do any applique she is up for it. This is my challenge UFO and I want it all done by July to show at my guild, so done is better than perfect..right!

First pic it is without borders, second pic I have the first sets of borders on. Unfortunately time was running out and I was in a hurry and I messed up putting on the final border...so I need to rip out two sides and switch them and add the last side to fix that....that is on the agenda for this afternoon so there should be another post!

After talking to Coleman for a bit, Randy and I went for Mexican food and then I came home and DEEP cleaned the car. The weather is PERFECT for that sort of thing. I also reorganized and loaded the food and games for Disneyland...we leave on Monday!

And Another Sneak Peak!

I have three more blocks that can either go in the front or on the back of this one...also need to add a wide border but I want to think on it for a short while. I sewed at June's today for the first time in forever and really had fun catching up with her!

Sneak Peak at Quilt History BOM 2009

This is what I am working on today. Am going to June's to work on it in a short bit. This is my Quilt History BOM from last year and that first block is from the year before...I started in Nov. 2008...I have a few blocks I don't like and they will be in the back, replaced by the two from the year before which turned out better! I just laid it on the border fabric..busy enough? I like it though!

A Glimpse at a Future Project: Quilt History Blocks 2009

Last Thursday after quilt history class I did a little shopping. The owner of the shop was nice enough to help me determine sizes for sashing and borders and pick fabrics! I put a few blocks next to the red and the multi fabric so you could get the idea. I will use the red as sashing with green polka dot cornerstones and then a good six inch border of the multi all around. I am quite excited to get to this one soon!
