Fall Bargello is Complete!

I finished my Fall/Autumn Bargello Quilt today. I am very happy with it...learned alot about precision. I didn't use labels like recommended and I really should have, would save myself some aggravation I think. After you do about six strips you have memorized which fabric is what letter though. I only had to unsew one complete strip as I mostly learned to check the pattern before sewing this time! I did unsew a few places where I wanted it narrower or wider but not too many since I did follow Ruth's directions on how to get a perfect 1/4 inch seam and it really worked! I only did it for the strips though...so I could sew the red fracture fabric downwards, then flip things around to sew the next strip upwards to keep things more square. I should maybe have used it for the 3/4 strips (not just fracture strips) but I didn't think of it until mostly done. They look okay though.

The above picture is how the three seasons look while awaiting Winter which we do next week and the week after. I am thinking about putting them into a quilt with borders (each quadrant made the same size due to the borders since they aren't quite the same size now!) and getting it quilted by my longarmer. What do you think? Individual wallhangings, or a Seasons Bargello Quilt?

Fall Bargello Getting There

It still isnt' done...I need to assemble some more strip sets so I can finish it up...have about 8 rows and 8 reds left to go I think...it is SLOW going with all these 1/4 finished strips in here, but I think well worth the effect you get. Thinking more and more about putting these four seasons bargellos into a lap quilt for the sewing room instead of doing four wall hangings...might even send them to the longarmer for quilting!

Fall Bargello Progress

I laid out some of the strips and took a picture...can hardly wait to see how this works! This one has a fracture strip (I chose red) which goes between each strip--only a fourth of an inch shows but it really is stunning!

My usual helper Jade insisted on sitting on the strips more than once!

Here is a sneak peek....adding the fractures is a bit labor intensive if you ask me, but I really do like the look! The fall colors are so beautiful. Fall is my favorite season, and I will miss it when we get moved to Arizona....but I will have this to look at!

Fall Bargello Progress

I started the Fall Bargello for Quilt University last night...I read all the directions ahead of time and for some reason I thought I needed to put the red fracture strip between each strip--I read that on the directions...EXCEPT of course it is between the strips after you cut them as in the third picture not between the stips when you first put them together. There were pictures in the directions but my printer was really low on colored ink so they didn't help me. So I sewed red strips to each of the colors before I realized I wouldn't have enough to do them all and studied the directions for ten more minutes...so I then completed three sets and the third pic shows the red strips laid out over them to get some sort of idea. I am so far happy with the colors. I need to cut another set (forget unsewing maybe I can use the oops ones in the borders) and sew them then I can cut them all and put the design together. I work all day today, then oil change, haircut, watch Hannah get a tatoo, etc, but tomorrow is a sewing day and I can't wait!
We signed the house onto the market, have a sign in the yard and everything. Realtors came through two days ago and gave us feedback, first showing was yesterday! Keeping the house C-L-E-A-N is wearing us out already...with two kids, four dogs and two cats, it is quite a ton of work but hopefully will sell soon!
