Grassy Creek is a Flimsy and Hazel on the Antique Quilts

Decided to get out the antique quilts that my grandmother had made for her son in law's second wedding and last baby.  I have told you the wild story on here before.  So here is Hazel on my Uncle Rick's baby quilt.

Finally finished up the string borders and got them on (they fit perfectly!) Grassy Creek.  I need to get a picture outside...we will see if it is sunny enough today.  Snow is melted but things are still a bit wet.  Sunshine immediately did her happy dance on top of it.  

Here is Hazel on top of the wedding quilt.  I have a picture of me around this age on the same quilt (see bottom).  Hazel loves quilts and I hope she will continue the tradition...her mom does do a bit of sewing but so far does not have the bug like I do!  Here is the story!

 

Grassy Creek String Borders in Progress

Hazel just turned five months old.  She is the light of all our lives and I am so glad I get to see her so much!  She will sit and watch me sew for a bit before she gets bored.  Cannot wait to teach her to sew!  She loves to look at quilts (they are everywhere here) and I hope that means she will want to be a quilter!

I have been playing more games.  This is Obsession which is themed like Downton Abby--sort of.  Really fun solo, but think I will like it even more with other players.

Aerion has grown on me.  At first I was not sure I liked it, now I am wanting to play it so I think it has caught me.  It is the first game I have sleeved, which I like, but which makes it not fit in the insert in the box right!

In sewing I finally started on my string borders.  Long way to go but will get there.

Grassy Creek Center is Together!

Hazel and I made her Mama a birthday butterfly with her little feet.  Hannah loved it!  It was a nice surprise. Linking Up with SoScrappy!  

Made my RSC Challenge block for February--Pine Tree Point in yellow.  Hazel was here at the time so it took a long time to sew this one block!

My friend Andrea sent me this handmade card.  So pretty, I had to share it and say Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!

Finally got motivated and worked on Grassy Creek!

The entire center is together and I am happy about the colors.  Next up is the border.  I have not even started on the strings for the outer border so that will be a bit to get on.

 I also got my Morewood mystery quilt together. May add a dark border it the matching fabric but for now I am calling it done and the UFO for February.  

Grassy Creek Parts are Complete!

My sister Tina has apparently been Ambien shopping lately so I jokingly sent her my Amazon wish list.  She responded by sending me Chrononauts and a book and movie for Hazel too  I love this game and cannot get enough of it.  It is about changing events in time and sending time travelers home.  Really challenging and fun!

So for Valentine's Day I asked for more games.  It is an illness!  So I picked these out and they arrived yesterday.  Have not played them yet but will soon!

Yesterday I finally sewed (after a week or so of nothing) and got the rest of the parts for Grassy Creek made.

My sister also sent Hazel this HUGE pink elephant.  She loves it!  This kid could not get any cuter--at least to us!

 

Grassy Creek Clue F Musings

Grassy Creek's clue five was a doozy for me.  Strings seem to take forever and get kind of boring for me after awhile.  I made a few a few different ways and they were not looking too pretty!  I discovered that I could cut off the tops (since I cut triangles to add on and not squares) with my Essential Triangle Tool.  

Then after sewing the corners on in white I could use the little Quilt in a Day ruler to trim them to look nice...some needed some sliver cutting.  I also realized I really did need to use the scant quarter inch to get them to come out right.

They are all made as of five minutes ago...this picture was from before that but they are looking decent.

I laid out a bunch of stuff to see what my colors would look like.  My blues in this first picture are really light.  I turned those tricky triangles around to see if I preferred it that way.  I do not think I do, though you can see the edges better so...

I tried laying one out with a slightly darker light blue.  I am thinking it will be okay.  I do not think my colors pop enough but they are pretty.

I went ahead and put one inside Ohio star together to see how it looked...now on to the reveal clue.  Plenty left to go!

 

Christmas with the Youngest and Mystery Quilts are Caught Up!

Two blog posts in one day since I cannot figure out how to schedule this one like I used to!

We went and saw Jay the day after Christmas.  He liked his gifts and his stocking.  While we were there we had pizza and played "The Game," "Blokus," (which he gifted us) and "Five Crowns," which is a long time favorite game.

My Once Upon a Time advent box came super late on Christmas Eve.  Read two stories a day and opened my gifts.  We got four books in the box!  Really fun stuff.

Here is clue five of Grassy Creek!  This clue was much easier than three and four!  Happy to be caught up again.

Spent some time a few mornings ago learning how to play Coffee Trader.  Love this fun game!  I need to get it out again so I can cement it in my brain!  Basically you are trying to brew the perfect cup of coffee!

I also created my 2021 UFO quilting list.  Only the starred ones are actual ufo's...unless you count the tops I need to quilt.  I have three of them here right now.  I enjoy doing this challenge though so added enough in to participate!

 

Merry Christmas!

We spent Christmas Eve with my daughter and her husband and baby Hazel.  They went home to his folks' home last weekend so they could keep it small.  So Hazel finally met two more great grandparents and his parents had a chance to see her for the second time.  Really keeping the circle small.  So hard with a new little one, but we benefited as we got to spend the time with them. Tomorrow Kathy and I will go spend the day with my youngest (he is working the holiday) so seeing two out of there of my kids is nice.  Mocha (the dog) posed so nicely for the picture too!

I am still working on clue four.  I have five more sets to sew, and five to trim at this point.  Goal is to get them done today since the next clue is out tomorrow (little grace due to Christmas!) and I like to keep up!

My advent box from Once Upon a Book Club FINALLY arrived yesterday too.  We were supposed to read one story a day and open one gift a day through advent.  I was really disappointed that is took so long to get here.  Things are nuts at the post office this year.  So I read the first story aloud to Kathy on the way to Hannah and Jeremy's house.  Then opened the first gift when we got home and finished the story.

Later I read the second story and opened this cool hat--which I have taken to wearing in the house this am since it is chilly!

 I got many nice gifts...lots of games this year (Kathy and I played 5 Minute Dungeon last night and liked it) which I am looking forward to.  My mom gave me a gnome cookie jar and a snowman tea pot among other things.  Some of our gifts from them have not arrived yet--mom was waiting on one more thing to mail another box out, but apparently it is no longer coming so she has to come up with something else.  More fun mail days ahead.  

My favorite gift this year is this ornament Hannah made from Hazel's foot.  SO SWEET and we will always remember how tiny she was!  Three months old at her first Christmas.

My November book box finally arrived and I read it right away.  Still waiting on December and sadly, the advent box too.  

Gudrun Erla did a video on December 15th for these Woven Heart ornaments, which remind me of Norway so I bought the supplies and had to make a few.  This year only the kids and my Goddaughter will get one, next year maybe more folks.  They are fun to make!

I am still working on Clue four of Grassy Creek.  Here is a whole pile waiting on sewing...now I have only ten sets to go on the last part of the sewing...then trimming.  Whoot, whoot.

My best friend Monica sent me Christmas gifts from this year and last year and a home warming gift.  Pretty exciting mail day!  I still have her last year gift too.  Hoping to see her in the Spring...she is four hours away now!

Participating in the 12 Days of Christmas Solo gaming challenge.  Super fun and has forced me to watch some videos and learn some new games...I have the games but did not know the solo or I did the print in play (Free) and learned to play that too.  Here is Sprawlopolis.

My Secret Santa from the filler board games group got me Tiny Towns.  LOVE IT.  Kathy and I have played it and I enjoy it solo too.  Looking forward to opening gifts as I know there are several games there!
