Rock Candy Anyone?

 Happy Belated Halloween!  Several of us terps at work decided to wear fake eyelashes for some Halloween fun--you can't really see them but I have mine on, lol.

 I got some great mail too!  So excited to be checking out Modern Quilt Illustrated.  I really like the quilt on the cover too!

 Kathy and I decided to hang a bunch of my little quilts up high in the quilting studio where we had some blank wall space.  Love my personal little quilt show.

 Last night and tonight we broke out Jaybird Quilt's Rock Candy pattern and ruler that we bought on shop hop.  We LOVE it!  We used up some leftover scraps and I made the one above and she below.  Tonight she quilted hers, no picture yet.

 

 I also made five of the twelve zip up bags (pattern from Craftsy class) for Christmas presents.

 

 Then we got back at the Rock Candy pattern with Halloween fabric.  This one is the one Kathy made.

 And I made this one.  These are going to make great Christmas presents (even if they are in Halloween fabric!).

Tomorrow we are taking Coleman and his girlfriend Lexie (visiting from Canada) to Cave Creek for the parade and Rodeo days.  We will meet my family there and it should be a good time.  We have to get up early, so I need to get to bed!  Hoping to sew tomorrow night, but if not I will be back at it on Sunday!

Long Sewing Weekend--Whoot Whoot!

 I worked a 15 hour day on Friday (first one job, then the other) and was so excited for three days of nonstop sewing!  Saturday morning I did do a bunch of cleaning that needed done, and reorganized my family tree stuff that needed a few hours of work.  Then I started sewing and only just now stopped!  I made these two zipper pouches to add to my Christmas gifties.

 I made (and later stuffed) this little monster softie.  Kathy and I may make ten or so of them for all the nieces and nephews if we get motivated.  It was fun to make!

 I sewed up one of these two "candyland" blocks for the Skillbuilder BOM which I really am not doing anymore.  LOL, I decided to just do the blocks that really appeal to me and not guilt myself over it.  Not really sure what in the world I will do with them unless I make them all into pillows, ha!

 Kathy and I got the border cut for Swoon and I attached it.  I am SO OVER THE MOON with this Swoon top.  I am so glad that Sarah started Swoonalong2013 and I didn't resist another year.  I have the backing all pieced and ready for Ros.  So nice to see all my Denyse Schmidt fabric going to use!  I have hoarded it long enough!

 Kathy also continued work on Twist of Fate.  This quilt has been hanging out forever..I started it at quilt camp and she has been working on it here and there.  It is about half way done and she has the other blocks done.  Love the visualness of the twisty design!

I spent many hours this weekend working on Lazy Sunday too!  This is the latest Bonnie Hunter mystery from Quiltmaker magazine.  (Bonnie's next mystery will be in November..who is with me?) The next two borders are quite complicated, lol but I got the next one made, just not attached and then I will make the last border and get it on.  It looks rather blah to me in this light, but the next border has green and the outer one has aqua so that should perk it up.  I made the binding in aqua already too.  Still need to decide on a back for this one and make it.

Seriously productive sewing weekend and we caught several movies while sewing which was nice too.  Tomorrow back to work but may get a chance to sew one of the nights this week--just want to get these borders on! :)

A Little Sunday Sewing

My first week back at the college interpreting (due to changes with Obama's health care laws I am not teaching because then I would have to really cut down on my interpreting hours because I have to stay "part time") went well.  I love that I get a new schedule each semester and it doesn't get boring.  I have great teams, students and for the most part teachers too.  

 We went up North this weekend for a celebration of my mom's birthday (and mine, Kathy's and my sister's too).  So here are my sister and I with my mom and her friend Jan is looking on.

 I sewed up eight blocks (easy for once) for the 35th Ave. BOM.  Then I made two of the four zipper pouch bags I cut out.  The top on has a tab, but I forgot to position it correctly, so it is on the inside--oh well!

Randy's daughter Rachel has come to Ohio (from Norway where she lives) with her almost one year old little guy.  I am getting a few things together for him to take when he visits her in two days.  She will most likely get one of these pouches, some dishrags and dish scrubbie, a fabric colored journal and whatever else I can think of.  I need to come up with something for the little guy too, he already has two quilts.  I should have been thinking of this sooner but hopefully I will come up with something!

Sunday Sewing Day!

Today Kathy and I finally recovered my ironing board.  The orange cover had some holes and was worn in the spot we use the most.  We decided to go with lime green this time but I already miss the orange!

 Tonight I was trying to think of something to make for my cousin who just graduated high school.  She will be visiting AZ from WI and we will see her next weekend.  She is a Packer fan (who isn't?) so one idea I had was a zip up pencil case and a journal.  I need to pick up notebooks so I can try to make a journal cover.  Any other brilliant suggestions send them on!

 All told I wound up making four of them.  The pattern if from one of the free bag classes on Craftsy (Bag Making Basics:  Reversible Tote and Zipper Pouch) and was really pretty simple and turns out cute.  I am finally putting all those free zippers I have collected to use!

 I also finished up clue three to the Lazy Sunday Mystery which is in Quiltmaker!  So looking forward to the layout next issue.
