BOM, RSC, Bags and Lady Nellie!

The above is a picture of my oldest, Coleman, with his wife and kids and grandkids (and an extra nephew they are currently raising too).  So proud of him and his ability to take care of them all when I honestly did not know if he would be able to take care of himself as an adult.  He amazes me daily!

The July Quilting Life BOM is done.  Still really enjoying my sewing themed blocks.

                                                        

Mom's bag gifted for her birthday this year.

In 2010 with Nimble Thimbles, we had a class taught by Dr. Kathy in which we made these bags.  I had always thought at some point I would make some for gifts.  They require three yards of Pellon though so are a bit spendy when you want to make several of them.  I managed to get it 60% off and of course used stash fabric for all but the outside of the Brewers bag above.  My best friend Monica is a HUGE Brewers fan and makes the trip to the games a few times a year.  I knew she needed one in Brewers fabric when I found it on sale when I went to get the Pellon.  I used the scraps to make her some Kleenex holders too.

Hannah's bag for Christmas this year.

I followed the pattern for all except the handles.  They expect you to turn out 29 inch handles, and I hate that method as it takes forever.  I took the picture above to show you how I use my clips on the edge of of the bag instead of pins.  Works really well.  

I made my mom a batik bag and brough it to her a few weeks ago when I went to see her.  Since then I made five more.  The shells are for my sister, the purple dots for Hannah, and the bikes for Rachel.  I really want to keep the colored one with black and white in the center but since I am making another sewing themed one, I should give the one above away.

Yesterday I sewed with Barb and Becky and made eight small red RSC blocks and did the trimming and piling up and made two larger red blocks.  

We finally got our new dog.  She is supposedly three and a rescue from Arkansas.  They named her Elle but she did not respond to that.  We renamed her Lady Nellie, and she comes to Lady already.  She has a lot more energy than we expected and needs training, but she follows Kathy around (yay, Bug and Sunshine follow me) and it is going pretty well so far.
