Sewing Day with Becky :)

Becky and I went to the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild Meeting today and then we sewed away the late afternoon and evening!  First I worked on clue three for my QOV Mystery...here is is along with bonus hsts.
Becky kindly offered to help me get my quarter inch right on my featherweight.  I think I am set now, thanks Becky!  Becky finished up her Anita's Arrowhead blocks and I managed to snag a picture of them, but not a picture of her Auntie's Anvil which she quilted and half bound!

Kathy eventually joined us to do her mystery clue.
Here is hers.  She is still working on the bonus hsts.
Meanwhile the reason I needed help with my quarter inch seam was these pesky blocks.  Do you remember Smith Mountain Morning?  I know, it has been a LONG time!  I think I put these away last fall when I started doing Orca/Green Bay because two complicated Bonnie projects at a time is too much for me.  And because I had discovered that my seam wasn't great and with these log cabinish blocks that is REALLY important.  Becky and I looking things over and came up with a plan of action and it seems to have worked. The picture above is the stack of blocks which are waiting for the last two blue logs and cornerstones to be added to them.  The logs are now together and the next picture is the four blocks that are done.

They will be set with another block alternating so this isn't how it will look.  This is one of my UFO's and I am trying to get a jump on it before its number comes up because there is still alot of work to be done on it.  This was supposed to be for Randy but since he got Orca/Green Bay, Coleman will be getting this one.  Would be nice to have it done in time for his birthday in December.
Randy gave DJ her quilt today but I haven't heard if she likes it or anything.  Hope it brightened her day anyway.

Crown Royal is Quilted!

Ros just sent me photos of Crown Royal all quilted.  This one is for my sister Tina's birthday in August.  Will hopefully get it bound to give it to her by then (it is still at Ros').

I am happy with how this all turned out and am glad I made it smaller than originally planned and got it off my list.  Thanks for both DJ and Kathy for helping me with this quilt, it was not the easiest one to do because of all the taking apart of the crown royal bags and cutting them up.  So fantastic it is done and off my list!

Some Miscellaneous Sewing!

I made another bow tie block (and cut a bunch more too) and then sewed the row together and added it to my top.  Unfortunately my featherweight has a smaller seam and so my row was a bit longer.  I eased to fit with lots of pinning but think I may have to take the row apart and do some block trimming before I put it back together.  Sheesh, I will never quite get that down.

I was in a puttering mood so I sewed my pinwheels together in the colors of the rainbow.  These will eventually become the border on Jack in the Box.  I did some organizing of leftover bits and pieces and sewed this together leftover from about six years ago when Kathy and I made a Jewel Box quilt in a mystery.    It is likely to get made into a dog quilt or dog bed.
Kathy decided to join in on the fun of the mystery I am making online.  She needed fabric so we went with the leftover line that I have made two different quilts out of.  I prefer these fabrics to what I went with...mine is a QOV and hers we aren't sure yet but the colors are right.  She has already sewed up clue two and is caught up for tomorrow's clue!

Doc Schnibbles is Quilted!

Off to work but Ros posted these pictures of my Doc Schnibbles after she quilted it.  Looking good!

Sunday Funday :)

I do believe this Anita's Arrowhead top is done.  I was planning to add another row but only have four more blocks ready to go and am out of the fabric so I think this one is done and will make a great Christmas Lap Quilt.  Whoot, whoot.
Today I mostly cut and sewed, cut and sewed bow ties.  Still trying not to duplicate though I am sure there are at least a few that got by me!

This purple and green block was June's which went with the thrift sale stuff.  I rescued it and ripped it apart so I could use the squares in my bow ties (desperate for DIFFERENT fabrics, lol!) So now you can see it in the bow ties!
Kathy's niece Megan came over and had her first sewing lesson.  She took right to it and after a quick sample started sewing charm squares into a quilt top.

I kept sewing away on my bow ties...I almost have enough now for another row!

After a few hours (and a bbq ribs, and Marge's potato salad plus corn on the cob dinner) this is what she made!  She will be back to add to it and learn how to finish it.  About two years ago I taught Megan how to knit and she had made several afghans and scarves and really took off with it.  She said she is definitely ready for a new hobby...or at least some variation!
It was another relaxing day of sewing and just hanging out and gabbing.  I now need to go work on some Spanish for a class I am doing.  Not the easiest class I have ever undertaken, but I like a challenge and I am trying to call back the Spanish I took like 28 years ago..hahahha!

Saturday in the Sewing Room!

I sewed A LOT today.  I have been watching "Downton Abbey" on Hulu and just sewing away.  First I put together the Anita's Arrowhead blocks I already had done...thought this would help motivate me to complete the remaining blocks.  Then I made two surgical caps for my brother Sam.  These are my Christmas Through the Year project for July.  The first one is Diamondbacks fabric.
The second one is Packer fabric.  He already has a Packer one, but one can never have too many Packer caps!
I also sewed another row of blocks (plus two) and added the row.  Two rows to go, but I think I am short a few blocks so may be one more row on this one.  We shall see.
Randy came home from work and we took a quick break and went out (after a major downpour yay!) and hit the thrift stores.  For fifty cents I got this fabric and I already cut them for bow ties and made another block with most of them.  I also got lots of yarn for Megan since she is a knitting fool, like me!

Quilt of Valor Mystery--Star Path Clue Two Done

We decided to paint my A to match the bookcase.  I love it.  It is already hanging in my quilting studio!

We watched five hours of "Quest for the Bay" a PBS show on Hulu after some dud movies.  I then came up and put in the first season of Downton Abbey and whipped up clue two for the Quilt of Valor mystery I am doing.  It was an easy clue and Star Path is on its way.
My friend Becky sent me a picture (and I borrow this one from her facebook) because in addition to the little quilt hanging she made here last weekend she whipped up an Auntie's Anvil!  It looks great and I had to add the picture of mine so I could see them side by side.
Looks like hers is bigger which puts a cool design in it like a big star.  Becky is so talented!  She said she might make another small one so I might have to dig that pattern out and do it too!
Oh while watching five hours of PBS I knitted up this entire dishcloth.  It isn't done in this picture, but it is now.  I was happy to hear via facebook that my daughter was also knitting a dishcloth in Wisconsin.  Love it!

Catch Up of Other Activities!

I went to the Strong Tower Gaming Convention this year.  It was super fun.  I stayed in the hotel with Ashley and Miranda.  I was super tire...
